Delhi retain handball title

JORHAT, Jan 11 � Defending champions Delhi retained the title in the 36th National Junior (Boys) Handball Championship.

In the final played at the Jorhat District Sports Association ground here today, Delhi defeated National Handball Academy, Bhillai 30-24. The Bhillai boys put up a stiff challenge to halt Delhi but finally experience made the difference and the defending champions kept their cool and clinched the title.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Delhi defeated Punjab 35-31 while Bhillai outplayed Haryana 37-25.

In the match for the third position, Punjab defeated Haryana 29-22.

Altogether 27 units of Handball Federation of India took part in the six-day championship.

In the closing function, State Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain, MLA Sushanta Buragohain, Handball Federation of India�s vice-president Kalyana Gogoi, noted sports organisers Dr Tapan Dutta, Nani Dutta were present as guests.

Tripura got the best disciplined team award.
