Delhi, Nagaon Police recover 23.5 kg heroin

NAGAON, March 14 - In a joint operation, Delhi and Nagaon police Tuesday night seized a huge quantity of suspected heroin from the house of a woman situated at Benganati village under Nagaon Sadar police station. Police later arrested the woman too. The woman has been identified as Samar Bhanu of Benganati village.

Sources said here that the seized heroin weighed nearly 23.5 kilograms and was stored at the house of the woman only by one Dhanjit Gupta of Bihar to parcel it to Dimapur in Nagaland. The huge quantity of suspected heroin was to be sent to various places of the entire North East and abroad.

The Superintendent of Police, Nagaon, Sankarbrata Raimedhi in a telephonic interaction with this correspondent on Wednesday said that the Delhi Police following an intelligence input apprehended one Dhanjit Gupta, a resident of Bihar in Delhi recently and during interrogation got some information about the storage of those heroin at the house of the woman in Nagaon. Delhi Police sleuths on Tuesday afternoon rushed to Nagaon along with Gupta. The team of Delhi Police and Nagaon Police led by newly-appointed Additional Superintendent of Police (Head Quarter) Rosie Kalita, launched the search operation and finally got the breakthrough, Raimedhi added.
