By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Oct 31 - Tripura MP Pratima Bhoumik today inaugurated a dedicated COVID treatment centre at the Jayanti Ward of the GB Pant Hospital here. The centre has 221 beds, out of which 39 have ICUs and ICU-cum-post operative wards. The three-storeyed facility has 13 ventilators. All modern facilities like X-Ray, sonography, labour room and morgue have been made available. COVID-19 patients will be shifted to the newly-opened centre from the existing building of the Agartala Government Medical College.

Earlier, some other medical departments were shifted elsewhere to accommodate the infected persons. Now these departments will relocate to their original spaces. Meanwhile, Tripura reported a virus death during the last 24 hours. This has taken the death toll in the State so far to 344. The total virus tally stands close to 31,000.

There have been no major changes in the fatality rate (1.12 per cent), the recovery rate (94.01 per cent) and the positivity rate (6.73).

What is becoming a cause of worry is that the State is facing an acute shortage of doctors at this juncture. According to sources, the State needs 150 more medical officers and 350 additional nurses to reinforce the existing manpower.
