Decorated pandals highlight relevant themes

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 29 A lot of excitement and novelty awaits the pandal hoppers this festival. Different puja committees have left no stone unturned in their preparations to provide some memorable time to the citizens and have selected a wide range of themes, all highlighting a relevant social issue to decorate their pandals.

Maligaon Kalibari will concentrate on their speciality, i.e. making use of the unused material. This will be the 64th year of celebration and the members will bring different flavour in decoration with unused materials.

This year the committee has come up with some new ideas of promoting pottery and clay goods such as pots, plates, dolls, showpieces, bells, toys, etc., and to spread the message to avoid plastic and make the life of the potters happier and easier. The idol is of clay and all other embellishments are also of clay.

Sri Sri Durga Puja Committee, Sector 2 Refinery Township, Noonmati, is celebrating puja with the theme Love The Rain and Let the Rain fall Naturally.

The concept of the Bhootnath Durga Puja Committee this year is Maya-Mohan. This year, the decoration is replicating Mayapur ISKCON that is referred to as the spiritual capital of the world. The idols are based on terracotta pattern decorated with reflectors and will be highlighted with shades of lighting.

The pandal entry has been lighted by solar lights with the motto Go Green. With global warming increasing alarmingly and power shortage affecting normal life, the committee feels its concept will motivate the people to come forward and do their bit to save the environment.

On the other hand, the theme for the Santipur Sluice Gate Durga Puja Committee this year is global warming. The committee has tried its best to reflect the theme with the help of their idol, which itself will portray the global warming scenario. Also, the puja will encourage local entrepreneurs by showcasing their innovations during the celebration. Eco-friendly concepts will take high priority during the celebration.

The theme for the Athgaon Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee is Voice Against Child Labour. The committee will depict various paintings to raise awareness against child labour.

Go Green is the message that New Field Durga Puja Committee will showcase during the celebrations. The decorations would include a village reflecting rural lifestyle. Eco-friendly materials like thatched roof and bamboo are being used for the village.

The Tokobari Durga Puja Committee is replicating the Surya Pahar and the Bishnupur Durga Puja Samity is highlighting the theme Save Rhino.
