Decked-up model booth a big hit in Nalbari

NALBARI, April 24 - A model polling station set up by the Nalbari district administration became a centre of attraction for the voters. The polling station, which was set up at the Bongaon HS School of Dharmapur LAC could attract substantial voters during the third phase of election which concluded yesterday.

Hasina Begum along with her parents cast their votes at the centre. After casting their votes they were given a gamusa and a sapling each.

�This is a unique experience and we are delighted at facilities provided by the administration,� an elated Hasina told this correspondent while narrating her experience after casting her vote.

The model polling station which was well decorated reflected Assamese folk culture. Facilities of drinking water, sitting arrangements, transportation facilities for Divyanga voters, �selfie point� for the young voters were also made available.

At the entry point of the booth, five girls stood in a queue with traditional attire to welcome the voters. Moreover, it was equipped with a rest room for senior citizens, an Omola Ghar (recreation room), newspapers and free health check-up facility.

Circle Officer of Paschim Nalbari revenue circle Sameer Choudhury said that saplings were provided to the first-time voters just to create awareness about environment.

�The entire model polling centre was managed by women. This is a new initiative which is aimed at bringing more and more voters during the election day,� he claimed.

Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury informed that in order to increase the voter turnout in the district a good numbers of initiatives were taken and the polling centre was a part of the initiative.

It may be recalled that this time, the Election Commission of India has taken a slew of initiatives to attract maximum voters.
