Decision on botanical garden hailed

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, July 7 - Welcoming the State governments decision to develop a botanical garden in the campus of the erstwhile Central Jail at Fancy Bazar, the Purvottar Marwari Sammelan has said that it was a timely and well-thought-out decision that would go a long way in maintaining the citys ecological balance, besides providing some much-needed open space for the citizens, especially the elderly and the children.

We welcome the State governments move to develop a botanical garden at the jail site. The entire Fancy Bazar area is extremely congested and the botanical garden will infuse fresh life into the surroundings. Children and the elderly in particular will be the beneficiaries, as they will get some open space for relaxing and recreational activities, Sammelan PRO Bikash Gupta said in a statement.

The Sammelan also appealed to the government to take steps to lessen the congestion at Fancy Bazar and to improve its chaotic civic conditions.
