GUWAHATI, Jan 25 - Criticising the Centre for imposing President�s Rule in Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the exercise was not just unwarranted, but also amounted to violation of the provisions of the Constitution of India and negation of the spirit of cooperative federalism.
Addressing a press conference, Gogoi said that the developments also put the role of the Arunachal Pradesh Governor in poor light as he seemed �more an agent of the BJP-RSS than a constitutional head of the State.�
�The Arunachal Governor certainly did not act in the best interests of the State as mandated by the Constitution. In fact, acts of omission and commission on the part of the governors in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura have revealed their partisan attitude to a political party,� he said.
Gogoi said that there was no breakdown of law and order in Arunachal Pradesh warranting President�s Rule, nor was there any constitutional crisis. �Moreover, the matter was sub-judice as a case was pending with the Supreme Court,� he said.
Gogoi added that recently even the President had to remind the governors of their constitutional obligation.
�The Arunachal Pradesh development exposes the Modi-led Centre�s intolerance and dictatorial attitude,� he said.
The Chief Minister also welcomed the declassifying of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose�s files by the Centre.
�It is good that Netaji�s files have been made public and it will set to rest many controversies,� he said, adding that the RSS contention that Nehru termed Bose as a war criminal was a blatant distortion of truth. �Nehru never said such a thing about Bose, which is a false propaganda of the RSS,� he said.
Gogoi also expressed concern over attempts by the BJP-RSS to put Bose in Hindu colour, saying that Netaji was the most secular person and his words and deeds testified to his unquestionable secular credentials.
�The BJP-RSS wants to hijack Netaji by projecting him as a Hindu leader, as is being done with Sardar Patel. This is absolutely unwarranted, as both Patel and Netaji were staunch seculars,� he added.
Taking a dig at the RSS, the Chief Minister said that the RSS had no role in the country�s freedom struggle. �It is the RSS and its radical ideology that killed a man like Mahatma Gandhi,� he said.
