Decadal growth rate of Manipur 18.65 pc

IMPHAL, April 3 � The directorate of Census Operations, Manipur, yesterday released the State�s provisional tally of Census at 27.21 lakh, including 13,69,764 males and 13,51,992 females.

The provisional report highlighted that the decadal growth rate in the State is above 18 per cent as against the national average of 17.64 per cent which in absolute terms work out to 4, 27,860.

The decadal growth rate is topped by Ukhrul at 30.7 per cent against the State average of 18.65 per cent. While Senapati and Tamenglong recorded a little over 25 per cent decadal growth, Churachandpur and Chandel districts recorded 19 and 21 per cent respectively. The figures in the four valley districts are 15.36 15.48, 15.82 and 14.63 per cent for Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal West and Imphal East respectively.

Interestingly, sex ratio of females per 1,000 males suggests that all the four valley districts recorded either a 1000 or more than that, as against the State average of 987.

The State registered 79.85 per cent literacy rate which is 18,91,196 persons in absolute term. While the percentage of the female literacy has been pegged at 73.17 per cent, that of the males stand at 86.49 per cent. District-wise, the percentage figure for Churachandpur, Imphal West, Imphal East and Ukhrul are 84.29, 86.70, 82.81 and 81.87 per cent respectively, while the rest of the districts showed percentage figures between 70 and 76.
