Debate held at GU school

GUWAHATI, Sept 7 - As a part of the silver jubilee celebration of Gauhati University Model High School (English section), an inter-school debate competition was held today in collaboration with Darshana Project consultancy.

The competition was organised in the memory of late Prof Md Taher, an eminent geographer. The topic was �In the opinion of the house - A presidential form of government would be better than the current form of Parliamentary government in India�.

Prof AK Bhagawati of the Department of Geography presided over as the speaker, while Gautam Sharma, Paragmoni Aditya and Dr Padmini Baruah were the judges. The first prize was won by Pranoy Baruah of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, the second by Mrityunjay Chakraborty of St Clares Convent High School and the third by Aditi Das of Shrimanta Shankar Academy. Mitali Panday and Mrityunjay Chakraborty of St Clares Convent High School, Borjhar, were adjudged the best team.
