SIVASAGAR , June 7 That there is no dearth of talents in Assam has once more beem proven by Sivasagar born Debajit Changmai in Bollywood when he won the national award this year in sound re-mixing category in Ish qiye the first in any technical category by an artist from Assam.

For Debajit it must have been a long journey to Mumbai films from Betbari Changmaigaon near Sivasagar. Narrating his story to Sivasagar scribes recently, Debajit said that after graduating from Jorhat Science College in 1996 he opted for Sound Recording course in Jyoti Chitrabon, Guwahati. In 2001, he went to Mumbais famous Rajkamal Kala Mandir owned by V Shantaram to work as an assistant. From 2001 to 2011, he worked in as many as 54 films as an assistant and sometimes independently in Hindi and other language films.

Debajit said he has worked under almost all notable directors like RamGopal Verma, Subhash Ghai, Sudhir Mishra, Pankaj Kapoor, V Varadwaj to name a few .

Speaking on Assamese film industry, Debajit said that the industry in Assam is crippled mostly because of entry of a section of unwanted , incompetent and utterly money minded producer directors who have ruined the future of Assamese films . He said even if new talents produce quality films now it would be difficult to bring back audience to the cinema halls.

Debajit said that recognition from ones own people, near and dear ones, is the real recognition and true reward and he is thankful to the people of Sivasagar and Assam for giving him tremendous support to struggle hard in life.

He said he genuinely felt indebted to his parents Gopinath and Hiranya Changmai , his only brother Dr Santanu Changmai, his wife Barnali and son Rhiddhiman who has to bear a lot for his irregular work schedule in Mumbai.
