GUWAHATI, Dec 3 - Opposition leader and CLP Chief Debabrata Saikia has demanded an explanation from the NRC authorities regarding its decision to publish the draft NRC in handwritten format and questioned whether this is a new ploy to delay the entire process.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, Saikia said the decision taken by the NRC authorities is highly questionable because the necessary digitalisation and computerisation have already been done, and the NRC data of relevant years and electoral rolls up to 1971 have been stored.
Saikia pointed out that the handwritten format may contain misspellings or illegibility and this could result in people being forced to move the court, which will ultimately delay the publication of NRC. In order to ensure peaceful and expeditious completion of an error-free NRC, the government should set up citizens� committees in all relevant areas, including the NRC Sewa Kendra areas, he added.
