AGARTALA, Dec 18 - Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today held a meeting with Joint Movement Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (JMACAB) leaders to restore peace in the trouble-torn areas of the State.
Over 100 villagers of Ananda Bazar in North district have been taking shelter in relief camps after they were forced to leave their homes in the aftermath of large-scale violence, allegedly perpetrated by JMACAB activists.
Tension still prevails in other areas like Manu, Chailtengtha, Gandacherra and Kamalpur even a week after the indefinite strike was withdrawn by the JMACAB.
�I held a meeting with delegates of the JMACAB at Agartala and we had an in-depth discussion on the present scenario in our State. Together, we shall work for development and welfare of Tripura and its people,� said the Chief Minister in a Facebook post.
Confirming the meeting with the Chief Minister, JMACAB convener Antony Debbarma said they discussed the prevailing situation in some areas including Kanchanpur. �We have agreed to bring peace to the State as early as possible and for this, JMACAB will do everything.�
Antony said the JMACAB leaders took up the issue of death of Mantri Lal Kaipeng, who was allegedly killed during the anti-CAB stir at Teliamura in Khowai subdivision, with the Chief Minister. �We urged the Chief Minister to provide a job to a family member of the victim, along with compensation. He assured us of doing the needful,� he said.
JMACAB, a conglomeration of tribal parties and NGOs protesting against the CAA, is seeking an audience with the Centre to sort out its concerns.
