JORHAT, Nov 12 - The situation along the Assam-Nagaland border at Dissoi Valley Reserve Forest under Mariani Range of Jorhat Forest Division continued to remain dead-locked on Thursday with Nagaland police personnel remaining stationed at a hut erected reportedly by Nagaland administration within the said Reserve Forest area on Monday.
The Assam police personnel, who too put up a temporary camp on Wednesday near the said spot while responding to the development and to prevent any further encroachment by Nagaland administration, remained ensconced in that position.
When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner Khanindra Das, who is holding charge as the Titabar Sub-divisional Officer (Civil), told this newspaper this evening that the situation at the spot along the inter-State border continued to be dead-locked on Thursday. Das said that efforts to pursue the Nagaland administration to vacate the area by Nagaland armed policemen and dismantle the structure put by them continued today with officials of Jorhat and Mokokchung (Nagaland) holding talks at the site over the impasse.
The in-charge Titabar SDO (Civil) said even as talks were held at the site where the row occurred the Assam police personnel stationed at the temporary camp set up at the spot remained on full alert to prevent any possible attempt of encroachment by Nagaland side.
He said that sufficient number of force was deployed by the Jorhat district administration to deal with any kind of situation that may arise due to the ongoing row.
Das said that a close watch was kept by the administration round-the-clock with senior district and police officials camping at the area and higher authorities of the State Government being briefed on the situation.
A district administration source stated the Assam police personnel had blocked the main entry and exit point to the cliff in the said Reserve Forest where the Nagaland policemen were camping at the structure in order to prevent any possible bid to encroach further.
