DC�s directives to police, other agencies on puja preparedness

GUWAHATI, Sept 24 - Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro district Biswajit Pegu during a recent meeting urged all deputy commissioners of police of the city to appeal to all puja committees of Guwahati to use the State language on their puja hoardings, banners, flags, advertisements and announcements.

At the same meeting, Pegu also directed the Joint Director of Health Services to reserve some beds at the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) and Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) to meet any emergency situation during puja days. He further directed the health department to deploy adequate numbers of quick response teams during the festival days.

As a protective measure, the DC also directed the senior officials of the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) to set up proper barricades around every electrical transformer located near the road and puja pandal.

The Deputy Commissioner also asked senior officials of the Fire and Emergency Services to place fire tenders at all police stations during peak hours to attend to any emergency situation.

In order to avert any emergency situation, the DC directed the officials of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) to carry out pruning of trees at strategic locations near every puja pandal in collaboration with the forest department.

He also urged senior officials of the Public Works Department to cover all potholes and construct scientific speed breakers at all necessary locations of the city.

Pegu asked senior officials of the district transport department to provide night bus service during the puja days.

At the meeting, Commissioner of Guwahati Municipal Corporation Debeswar Malakar informed that for garbage disposal all puja committees will have to tie up with the NGOs concerned to collect garbage in their respective areas. He said all puja committees should hand over the garbage to the NGOs during late night hours to avoid traffic congestion.
