GUWAHATI, Aug 18 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today directed all the Deputy Commissioners to initiate necessary steps so that land-related information could be provided to the public through the Short Message Service (SMS).
Gogoi said that the introduction of the management information system in the Revenue and Disaster Management department would go a long way in solving land-related problems. �Issues like land registration and settlement can be resolved with greater transparency and quickly,� he added.
Speaking at a function organised at the Chief Minister�s conference room to release the Assam Disaster Management manual and launch the management information system, Gogoi said that apart from providing hassle-free mechanism to settle land-related issues, the system would also push the development process in the State.
The Chief Minister, while speaking to the Deputy Commissioners and Circle Officers of various districts, urged them to keep public convenience in mind. He said that the public must be made aware of government schemes.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman also spoke on various land-related issues and vouched to bring the administration closer to the people.
Additional Chief Secretaries Subhash Chandra Das and MGVK Bhanu were also present in the meeting, besides senior officials of the department.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister today formally inaugurated the new office building of the Dispur Revenue Circle. The building has been constructed near the Basistha Police Station at a cost of Rs 1.87 crore.
The Chief Minister said the offices of all revenue circles of the State would be modernised and computerised in a phased manner. He said that the government has already introduced a �land and revenue service� in the State.
Gogoi also announced that the government would formulate a new scheme for the poor and landless people and an ambitious plan has been chalked out for the construction of the offices of all the directorates at one place near the National Highway 37. He also said that the government would soon construct an invention centre in memory of former President APJ Abdul Kalam.
Addressing the function, Revenue Minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman said that the government is taking all possible measures for the computerisation of all land records.
The Chief Minister also inspected the new building and barracks of the Dispur Police Station today.
