DC urges people to avail smarter options to check names

By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

JORHAT, Dec 29 - Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal urged the people of the district not to rush to NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs) to check their names in the first draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) and instead they could use a few other options as these would be more convenient, smarter and fast.

Mittal, while addressing media persons here today, said though people could go to the nearest NSKs to check the first draft NRC list from 8 am onwards on January 1, checking the same online would be much easier and less time consuming.

Mittal said people could log onto nrcassam.nic.in, assam.gov.in and homeandpolitical.assam.gov.in to see the list online.

He said other options are sending the ARN (Acknowledgment Receipt Number) to 9765556555 and pre-registering your mobile number to receive SMS about the inclusion of one's name in the first draft NRC list. The same service would also be made available after December 31 and another option is to call at the toll-free number (15107) from Assam or at 18003453762, if the caller is from outside Assam, he added.

Staff Correspondent from Dibrugarh adds: Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri said the first draft NRC list will be made available online in 97 NRC Seva Kendras of the district.

In a meeting held in her office with the members of various student organisations of the district on the progress of publication of the first draft NRC list, Madduri sought cooperation from student organisations to spread awareness among public to thwart any untoward incidents during the part publication of the draft NRC list.

She also added that the officials have been asked to make alternative arrangements for space on government premises, if there is insufficient space at NRC Seva Kendras for displaying the draft NRC list.

The Deputy Commissioner further said claims and objections shall be received from the applicants only after the complete publication of the draft NRC list. The final NRC will be published after disposal of all claims and objections, she added.

ADC Ankur Bharali was also present in the meeting.
