DC convenes all-party meet to explain election rules

DIBRUGARH, March 16 - In the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, an all-party meeting was convened by the district administration at the DRDA conference hall here to acquaint the political parties with the laid down rules and procedures of filing nominations and code of conduct, a release stated.

The members of all the attending political parties were explained in details all the mandatory election rules and code of conduct which would be in force for the contesting candidates following notification for the first phase of the Lok Sabha election on March 18. Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha while explaining the objective of the meeting said that the purpose is to ensure that there is no misunderstanding among the political parties about the procedures for filing nomination and the conduct of contesting candidates in all respects is ideal. He urged all the parties to cooperate in conducting the elections in a fair, free and smooth manner.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Dutta explained in details all the necessary information a contesting candidate has to furnish during filing of the nominations like name and address, bank account, social media account/handle, details of movable and immovable properties, criminal antecedents if any, liabilities and dues to government and public financial institutions, source of income, status of IT return, assets etc., and on the amount of security deposit a candidate is required to make. The members of the political parties were also told about the number of supporters a candidate could take along with him while submitting his nomination to the Returning Officer and other related issues, the release added.

The district administration also released a phone number (0373-2312940) for the public to lodge complaints about violation of the model code of conduct and expenditure rules by contesting candidates and political parties.
