GUWAHATI, Feb 18 - A daylong programme of naam kirtan was organised at the Dasampur Naamghar at Panjabari here today in the presence of around 200 devotees of the area.
Chapters from the Sri Mad Bhagawat were recited by Nitya Ranjan Das. Dr Surendra Mohan Mahanta, retired professor and a descendent of the historic Sepohiyal Sattra of Tezpur, conducted the naam kirtan.
Secretary of the Naamghar, Pradeep Bora, explained the significance of the day and welcomed the guests. Haricharan Deka gave an account of the activities of the Naamghar which had been observing all the religious functions and tithis (anniversaries) of the saints for the last three decades.
DN Chakravartty, who hosted a reception, suggested that similar congregations should be held quarterly in order to create an atmosphere of spiritual uplift besides promoting greater cohesion in society.
