Darrang students grab 1st, 9th ranks

MANGALDAI, June 6 - Once again it was proved that students from schools even in remote villages of the State are not lacking in outstanding merit and talent.

Dhritiraj Bastav Kalita, a student of Barampur Jatiya Vidyalaya located in remote village Barampur under Pathorighat revenue circle under Sipajhar LAC in Darrang district has secured first position in the HSLC examination results of which were declared on Saturday. Dhritiraj appeared in the examination from Padum Pukhuri High School, a govt provincialised school of the area. Dhritiraj stood first securing altogether 595 marks with 99.16% and letter marks in all the six subjects. His father Nava Kalita is a teacher in the Barampur HS School and mother Tulumani Kalita is a house wife.

While talking to this newspaper, Dhritiraj said that the key reason behind his success was regular studies while taking care of his routine of sleep and meals besides enjoying music at leisure . �I used to study regularly and every subject daily. I didn�t fix anytime and studied at any time of the day. I also maintained a regular routine for my sleep and meals,� he said. �I was sure that I could secure a rank but didn�t expect to secure the first position. I am really thankful to my teachers for giving me the best possible atmosphere for studies,� Dhritiraj added. Dhritiraj said that he wants to be a medical practitioner in his future and in pursuit of this goal he would take up the Science stream. But he is yet to decide about the institution where he would join next.

Meanwhile, several senior government officials of the district including the Deputy Commissioner, Dilip Kumar Borah, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kalpana Deka, Inspector of Schools (i/c) Dr Jowahira Tabassom besides local AASU leaders visited the residence of Dhritiraj and offered him greetings despite the prevailing pandemic situation by obeying social distancing norms.

On the other hand, another rural talent of the district Bhrigu Mohan Kumar has also brought laurels to the district by securing the 9th rank in HSLC examination. Bhrigu Mohan, son of Chandra Kumar and Bijaya Barua Kumar of village Bairagipara, under Pathorighat revenue circle of Sipajhar was a student of Srimanta Sakardev Vidyalaya. Bhrigu secured an aggregate of 585 marks (97.5%) with letter marks in all the six subjects. Talking to mediapersons, he said that his future goal is to become an officer by cracking the UPSC exam and now he would pursue his studies for higher secondary in the Science stream. The outstanding performance of Bhrigu Mohan has made the entire Bairagipara village jubilant, however they could not celebrate the moment freely due to the prevailing guidelines of social distancing.

Apart from these outstanding performances, in the HSLC results, Darrang also stood third behind Sivasagar and Nalbari in the overall performance among the districts of the State with a pass percentage of 74.35.
