Darrang DC urges people to jointly fight malnutrition

MANGALDAI, Sept 13 - In a noble gesture, Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kr Barman on Wednesday played the role of a maternal uncle at the �annaprashan� of four babies held here recently.

Barman was taking part in the �annaprashan day� programme held at the anganwadi centre of Sivsankar LP School under ward no. 5. The programme was held as part of the ongoing mass nutritional programme in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Barman underlined how rice as a complimentary food is essential for a baby to acquire the overall mental and physical growth immediately after the normal breast feeding period of first six months.

He put stress on offering complimentary food to babies on time and without any delay. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the people to work unitedly to fight malnutrition, anaemia, etc .

The Deputy Commissioner, amidst a festive atmosphere, performed the role of a maternal uncle of the six-month-old babies who are the beneficiaries of the anganwadi centre.

The function was also attended by Dr Nirmal Ch Beriya, sub divisional medical and health officer, Darrang, Abu Hussain, district social welfare officer (in-charge), Manimala Gogoi, district public relations officer, officials and staff of the Pub Mangaldai ICDS, anganwadi supervisors, anganwadi workers, helpers, teachers and students of the school among others.

In a similar function held at the anganwadi centre of Nonoighat LP School under Sipajhar ICDS, Kalpana Deka, ADC and in-charge of the Social Welfare Department, attended the programme as chief guest. Similar function was also held under the Kalaigaon and Paschim Mangaldai ICDS.
