MANGALDAI, Oct 28 � In a serious attempt to stop alleged illegal practices in some government offices in Darrang district and bring about fair administration in those offices, Deputy Commissioner MS Manivannan today served showcause notices to as many as 161 government officers and staff, including 14 district heads of departments.
Talking to this correspondent over telephone, DC Manivannan said he and three of his additional deputy commissioners in four separate teams today simultaneously made sudden visits to some government offices and educational institutions, where they found unauthorised absence of the said officers and staff.
He said necessary showcause notices have already been served to the erring government officials as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against them.
The senior government officials to whom notices have been served included the Superintending Engineer, PWD (Road) Mangaldai Circle; Executive Engineer, public health engineering Mangaldai Division; District Registrar of Cooperative Societies etc., he added.
Moreover, showcause notices have been served to 147 other government staff.
The Deputy Commissioner has also warned of more such sudden visits to government offices in the district and on-the-spot stern action against erring officials in the near future.
