Darrang DC orders probe into MGNREGA anomalies

By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, March 17 - Darrang Deputy Commissioner, Ghanshyam Dass has ordered an inquiry into the alleged anomalies in the sanction of schemes under MGNREGA for the year 2018-19. Informing the above to this correspondent on Sunday, Deputy Commissioner Dass said that Chief Executive Officer, Darrang Zilla Parishad, Tez Prasad Bhusal will conduct the inquiry. I have asked CEO, Darrang Zilla Parishad to conduct an inquiry, he said.

Mention may be made here that a section of newly-elected PRI members of the district have alleged that the office of the Project Director (PD), DRDA, Darrang had indulged in large-scale anomalies and corruption in the sanction process of a total of 250 MGNERGA schemes for the current fiscal year 2018-19 involving an amount of Rs 7.25 crore.

They have alleged that in selection of most of the schemes, a secret monetary deal through some middlemen to the tune of around 20 per cent on the sanction amount for each of the scheme had taken place. A large number of schemes which had earlier been approved under Gaon Panchayat Development and Planning (GPDP) following the decision of the Gram Sabhas have allegedly been removed from the list while other list of schemes of their choice with a bigger estimated cost have been selected for sanctioning. Moreover, there has been violation of official norms including the lack of necessary technical sanction and administrative approval in the sanction process.

The anomalies came to light after PD, Darrang, DRDA, Gulam Mostafa Muktadir recently distributed sanction letters to the PRI bodies under five different Development Blocks of the district. However, efforts of this correspondent to meet PD Muktadir to quote his reaction in this regard failed when he expressed his inability to meet referring to his busy election schedule. The inquiry magistrate Bhusal was also not available for comment in this regard.
