Darrang DC moves Govt against EE

By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, June 13 Taking strong exception to the alleged unauthorised absence of the Executive Engineer of the Mangaldai Water Resources Division from the district headquarters during the present flood, Darrang Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar has reported the matter to the State Government, requesting disciplinary action against the erring senior official.

It is learnt that the Chief Secretary of Assam had issued several reminders to all the district heads of departments not to leave their headquarters without the prior approval of the Deputy Commissioner. However, the Executive Engineer allegedly availed of leave without the prior consent of the Deputy Commissioner. Significantly, the Executive Engineer on June 8 had issued directions to all his subordinate officers, including the Assistant Executive Engineer, Sectional Officers, Junior Engineers and others, not to leave the headquarters during the flood season in a letter (No. MWRD/ Gen-22/2015-16/55).

Meanwhile, the flood scene in the affected areas under the Mangaldai Revenue Circle has remained unchanged. The area experienced heavy rainfall on Thursday night too.

Earlier, Minister of Water Resources and local MLA Basanta Das visited the flood-affected areas of Mangaldai and took stock of the situation. He also held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner and all heads of departments at the Deputy Commissioners conference hall and asked the officials to take all possible measures to tackle the flood.
