MANGALDAI, Feb 28 - Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ghanashyam Dass has hinted at a possible action against the erring government officials involved in the alleged scam related to the implementation of Swacch Bharat Mission Gramin (SBM-G) from 2017-18 to 2018-19.

Dass was responding to queries raised by a section of reporters regarding the allegation of mass irregularities in the construction of individual household latrines and other relevant works under the Centrally sponsored scheme.

The inquiry report conducted by an officer in the rank of an additional district magistrate in this connection has already been submitted and now, the course of action will be taken up by the government against the erring officials, said the Deputy Commissioner while interacting with the local media on Wednesday afternoon in his office conference hall for the first time after assuming office as the new Deputy Commissioner of the district nearly a month back.

It may be mentioned here that the Mangaldai division of the Public Health Engineering Department was the nodal implementing agency and the division had to suffer a huge burden of undue payment to the tune of several crores of rupees by the present executive engineer cum nodal officer of the division, even though crores of rupees had been released days before the retirement of the then executive engineer Manabendra Bikash Dhar.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kalpana Deka, Mangaldai Election Officer Kartik Kalita and District Information Officer Manimala Gogoi were also present in the media interaction.

Earlier, Dass also briefed the media about the preparations for the ensuing general elections in the district.

He said altogether 24 teams have already been put into service for creating awareness among the general voters regarding the functions and mechanism of the voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT).

He also underlined the importance of proper use of the mobile app C-Vigil which would enable citizens to report on violation of model code of conduct during elections with supporting photos and videos directly from the spot of occurrence.
