Darrang BJP highlights achievements

MANGALDAI, June 27 - Darrang BJP on Tuesday highlighted a slew of welfare schemes initiated by the Centre during the past four years by the BJP Government. This came as a mark of completion of four years of Modi-led government at the Centre.

Addressing a press conference here today, general secretary of the state BJP, Dilip Saikia claimed that several people-friendly schemes launched by the BJP-led Government at the Centre have started paying dividends. �Our main objective is to improve connectivity and accordingly new roads have been constructed so far in order to provide better infrastructure,� the general secretary said. To substantiate his claim, Saikia informed that a total of 299 km road has been built in the district . �Altogether 36 bridges have been built under the PMGSY, besides providing LPG connections to over 70,000 families and distribution of identity cards to 17,726 people for procuring rice at subsidized rates,� he claimed. He further informed that more welfare schemes would be introduced in the days to come.

Gurujyoti Das, MLA, Mangaldai, who was also present in the press briefing, informed that a new park has been constructed at the heart of the town for the children and the senior citizens.

�An erosion protection scheme entailing an investment of Rs 4.66 crore has been undertaken. Once completed, this scheme will help the people who have been encountering a perennial flood problem,� the MLA informed.

He also highlighted the construction of a drainage system and renovation of the NH -15 around Mangaldai, laying of foundation stone of the proposed cancer care centre and Rs 900 crore proposed Skill City at Mangaldai as few of his achievements and future planning .

Several other party leaders, including district president Nilima Devi, general secretaries Sewali Goswami Kalita and Mokunda Deka , Mangaldai Municipal Chairman Pratap Bordoloi , in-charge of its district legal cell Sailendra Sarma Barua and Convener of Media Cell Amar Sarma among others attended the press conference.
