MANGALDAI, Jan 3 - Jibon Deka and Renu Deka memorial second Darrang district prize money school badminton championship organised by the Mangaldai Club began at the Gopinath Bordoloi indoor stadium here today.
The championship played in two different groups for boys based on their age and open for girls witnessed a total of 62 young shuttlers from across the district. In the inaugural match for girls Akankhya Parashar defeated Debolina Bharati 21-16, 21-19. On the other hand for boys in the U-16 category Kokil Bhuyan got the better off Hrisikesh Barua 21-7, 22-20 while in U-13 category Naieem Anjum crushed Lalindro Boro 21-4, 21-2.
Earlier Mithinga Basumatary, physical instructor in JNV, Kalaigaon formally inaugurated the championship in presence of Basanta Deka, sports secretary, Mangaldai Club among others.
