Dance video as death anniv tribute to Bhabendranath Saikia

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 7 - In a special attempt to commemorate the timeless creations of Dr Bhabendranath Saikia in the run-up to his 17th death anniversary, a dance video titled Twilight at the Port, based on Dr Saikias prose, will be released online on August 9.

August 13, 2020 is the 17th death anniversary of Dr Saikia and in order to pay homage to the maestro in a little offbeat way, the dance video has incorporated Ei Bondoror Aabeli, an exceptional prose collection from the writer that is different from his usual style.

The dance is created and presented by Prerana Bhuyan, an acclaimed Satriya dancer known for her experimental dance forms. The unique project which has combined the rhythm, dance and prose, has managed to accomplish the complex task of expressing only prose passages through dance gestures.

The text of the prose for this new experiment has been selected by Dr Birendra Nath Datta. This text was earlier compiled in the audio book Bhraman Biroti, directed by Namrata Datta.

In a renewed attempt, sound engineer and instrumentalist Diganta Sharma has newly added music to it. For the sub-title of the video, its text has been translated into English by Dr Dipsikha Bhagawati. Dhanjit Das and Namrata Datta are also associated with this project, which is being jointly presented by Club Nineteen, UD Foundation and Rainsoft.

The dance video is conceived by Utpal Datta and music arrangement, editing and production are by Diganta Sharma. The video is expected to touch at least five million followers of Dr Saikia by August 13.
