Damodardev Award for Dr Naren Kalita

NAGAON, April 24 - A scholar of Sankari literature and culture Dr Naren Kalita, who was the retired HoD of the Assamese Department of ADP College, Nagaon, has been selected for the Shri Shri Damodardev Research Award for the year 2017. This award was instituted by the Shri Shri Auniati Satra at Majuli in the 2012.

This award will be formally given at a function to be held on June 21 next, informed the Satradhikar Dr Pitambar Dev Goswami.

Meanwhile, Dr Naren Kalita formally released Yeat Ekhan Nadi Asil, a collection of poems and short stories written by Mridusmita Saikia, at a function.

Attending the function as honourable guest, her classmate Dr Nanda Singh Borkola recalled his association with writer Mridusmita.

President of the Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, well-known actor Jnanda Bora was on the chair. Retired principal Mukul Saikia welcomed the guests. Poet Dr Prayag Saikia presented introductory remarks about Mridusmita Saikia. Her husband Naba Kr Mudoi offered the vote of thanks.

Among others who spoke on the occasion were the president of the Sadou Asam Lekhika Samaroh Samity Abha Bora, writer Bhupen Ch Das, etc.
