Dalmia Cement asked to close its factory at Umrangso

By Correspondent

HAFLONG, April 16 - The NC Hills Autonomous Council has ordered stopping of all activities of the Dalmia cement factory at Umrangso with immediate effect from last Thursday for non availability of valid trade license, Dao Tax and not even having forest license for running of crushers etc.

Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member of the NC Hills Autonomous Council, in a press meeting held on Thursday at his official residence at Haflong disclosed that the firm does not have a renewed trade license, Dao Tax and even the forest permission for running of crushers etc., for a long time. Dalmia is yet to pay the land revenue and also other taxes for reasons best known to them. Even though it was a big industry, it did not implement CSR schemes in Dima Hasao properly.

In regard to Dao Tax and trading license, Gorlosa said this step was taken by the NCHAC for proper revenue collection and to find out the mechanism to identify outsiders so that if any untoward happening occurred involving outsider, they could be identified easily and of course to instill a work culture among the local youths so that they can earn livelihood without depending on NCHAC. He affirmed that this step of checking trade license and Dao tax would be carried out throughout the district. Now we are giving all possible opportunities to get their license renewed in a regular way but after this if anyone is found without valid license, he would be penalised or the shop could be seized according to the Councils norms, he said.

He also said the NCHAC was going to take steps against the Assam Mines and Minerals Development Corporation (AMDC), NEEPCO etc., who are also violating the councils norms and did not pay the revenue as per norms and thereby the council has to bear the brunt of financial crisis. Regarding NEEPCO, he said more than 10,000 bighas of land other than its legal land property is under the occupation of NEEPCO. The process is being mobilised to get land revenue for the extra occupation of land. People of Dima Hasao have been extending full support to us for the steps taken in the process for proper collecting revenue to the NCHAC.
