GUWAHATI, June 23 � One Nobel Peace Prize winner greeted another, as Archbishop Desmond Tutu greeted the 14th Dalai Lama on his 80th birthday as Buddhists across the world celebrated the day, while the Central Tibetan Administration brought out a special video to mark the occasion.
Secretary, Department of Information of the Tibetan Government in exile Tashi Phuntsok told The Assam Tribune that according to Tibetan ritual, a person reaching 80 years of age is a special occasion and it is more so because �His Holiness Dalai Lama has turned 80.� He said that according to the Tibetan lunar calendar, the birthday of the Dalai Lama was on June 21 and the day was celebrated in a befitting manner at Dharamsala in Himachal Pardesh.
Phuntsok revealed that according to the international calendar, the birthday of the Dalai Lama falls on July 6 and the day will be celebrated by Buddhists all over the world.
The Central Tibetan Administration has brought out a special video to pay respects to the Dalai Lama. The video highlights the contributions of the Dalai Lama for the wellbeing of the human race and protection of Tibetan culture and environment.
Paying tribute to the Dalai Lama, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, another Nobel laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu said the Dalai Lama is God�s Gift to the world.
