By R Dutta Choudhury

DHARAMSHALA, Nov 10 - The Dalai Lama is hopeful of a bright future for Tibet as more and more common Chinese people are showing respect to the rights of the Tibetan people and on their part, the Tibetans are also willing to stay within the Peoples Republic of China with genuine autonomy.

Talking to The Assam Tribune at his residence here, the Dalai Lama pointed out that they have been struggling for the last 57 years for a just cause on the strength of moral principles and truth and we are fully committed to non violence. He said that though politically Tibet was never a part of China, under the present global situation, the Tibetans are willing to adopt a middle-way approach.

Giving details of the middle-way approach which the Dalai Lama is now advocating, he said under the present global situation, we are ready to stay within the Peoples Republic of China with genuine autonomy. China is also in the process of changing. China is no longer an isolated country and it is becoming a part of the world community. As per our middle way approach, Tibet would remain within China enjoying a high degree of self rule or autonomy. I believe that it would be beneficial for both the Tibetans and Chinese. We will be able to develop Tibet with Chinas assistance, while, at the same time preserving our rich and unique culture including spirituality and our delicate environment.

The Dalai Lama said that of late, more and more Chinese people have started approaching him and some even came with tears in their eyes. He revealed that Chinese people are also coming to meet him for his teachings and many Chinese are now willing to follow the Tibetan Buddhism, which is following the Nalanda tradition of scientific way of research along with peace of mind. They are also showing interest in Tibetan culture and philosophy. He said that he had to organize special teachings for the Chinese from time to time in his place as more and more Chinese are now showing interest in attaining peace of mind.

However, at the same time, the Dalai Lama observed that the Government of China is still adopting a hard line on the issue. The Government of China still considers me dangerous, which I am not, he said and alleged that from time to time, the Chinese Government even launched false propaganda against him. But at the same time, he is optimistic of a bright future as we have been fighting for a just cause with patience and determination.
