Dairy farmers attacked, one killed

DIBRUGARH, Oct 20 - One person was killed while several others sustained injuries when over 100 unidentified men allegedly led by Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), student body of the Mising community, attacked dairy farmers at Charkholia Ramsing Sapori and set ablaze their houses yesterday reportedly for not conceding to extortion demands.

All the injured were rushed to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) but Murli Yadav succumbed to his injuries there. The other injured include Dhananjoy Yadav, Aditya Yadav, Sushila Yadav, Mukti Yadav, Bijoy Yadav and Radhesyam Yadav. The dairy farmers were reportedly attacked with sharp weapons. As per an FIR lodged with the police, the dairy farmers were served letters by the Takam Mising Porin Kebang, Laimekuri Anchalik Committee of Dhemaji district on October 11. The complainants mentioned that since they did not pay the amount demanded by the organisation, a large number of people led by TMPK leaders set ablaze their houses and attacked them yesterday. However, in this connection, TMPK leaders could not be reached for comments.

Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Gautam Bora said that as alleged members from TMPK came along with big number of people from Jonai side (Dhemaji) and attacked the dairy farmers and also resorted to arson. �We have identified some of the accused. Police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Dhrubajyoti Bora is already at the site along with other officials of the administration. We are pursuing the case,� he said. It is gathered that a few demands notes on the letter heads of Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), Laimekuri Anchalik Committee, Dhemaji, have been handed over to police.
