Daily wage earner assaulted by police

NALBARI, July 26 - A patrol party of Belsor Police Station in Nalbari district brutally assaulted a daily wage labourer at Balijhar village while the latter was returning home from work at a nearby village on Saturday evening.

The police patrol party physically assaulted the old man identified as Jatin Das (60) of Kharsitha village in the district with their lathis as he returning home at around 6.15 pm just ahead the night curfew.

Das reportedly fell down on the road and was bleeding profusely from his head.The police vehicle left the spot soon after the incident. Local youths took the helpless old man for medical assistance and subsequently dropped him at his residence at night.

When the incident of unwarranted brutality by Assam Police spread like wild fire in social media, the OC of Belsor Police Station Raben Boro visited the residence of Jatin Das today and assured all possible help to Das.

According to Das, one Parmesh Deka of the Assam Police allegedly assaulted him.

Meanwhile, the OC submitted his name to the higher authority for departmental action. The incident was strongly condemned by a cross-section of people in the district.
