Dadhi Mahanta memorial award to be conferred on Dr Rup Kumar Barman

GUWAHATI, Dec 9 - The Mohan Chandra Mahanta Adhyayan Gobesona Kendra will confer the Dadhi Mahanta Memorial Social Science Research Award for the year of 2017 on Dr Rup Kumar Barman, Professor, Department of History, Jadavpur University, West Bengal. The Kendra is a social science research centre which is in collaboration with Cinnamara College, Jorhat. This was stated in a press release.

The aim of this centre is to develop research on rural education, panchayati raj, rural history and rural economy in collaboration with established similar centres of the country. The centre annually confers the Dadhi Mahanta Memorial Social Science Research Award to a devoted researcher in the field of historical research of the country. Last year, Dr Rahul Sankritayan Majumder, Associate Professor, Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati was awarded for his outstanding contribution towards the development of creative historical research. Dr Barman has been chosen for his contribution towards the growth of historiography of greater eastern India.

Dadhi Mahanta (1914-1988) was one of the distinguished postgraduate students of History in Calcutta University in 1941. He was not only a leading freedom fighter, but one of the stalwart architects of Marxist ideology in Assam also. The award function will be held at Cinnamara College on January 17, 2018, the release added.
