NAGAON, March 21 � Nagaon Police on Friday (March 20) morning has foiled an attempt by a gang of dacoits to snatch money. Acting on a tip-off, a police team in civil dress kept a watch at Beltoli under Itapara Police Outpost on a six-member gang of dacoits on three motor bikes who were planning to snatch money, meant for labour payment in a brick kiln. At about 5.30- 6 am, the gang arrived and there was an exchange of fire with the police party.
One dacoit who was killed on the spot was yet to be identified. Two namely, Merajul Islam and Babul Ahmed, were injured and admitted to the BP Civil Hospital. Another two of the gang, Kasem Ali and Mainul Haque were apprehended by the police while one was absconding. Police sources informed that the absconder was also injured.
One police personnel, Badri Prasad Baruwati was also injured and he was shifted to the GMCH for proper treatment.
Police recovered three bikes bearing numbers AS 02 F 5053, AS 02 G 5999, AS 02 N 1598, two pistols and one khukri from the spot.
