TURA, Jan 17 - A dacoit was lynched by a mob of more than 500 villagers in Tikrikilla in Garo Hills on Thursday.

Chased by a mob, three other dacoits managed to elude the mob of villagers but one Amden N Marak, was caught by the irate villagers and beaten to death. The incident follows a resolution by villages in and around Tikrikilla for zero tolerance to criminal activities.

According to local sources, around 11 neighbouring villages of Kentapara, a few kms from Tikrikilla town were aware of the presence of four dacoits who were a part of a gang responsible for dacoities and kidnappings in the area.

A crowd of more than 500 villagers from the 11 villages chased the group and managed to catch Marak while the others gave the slip. Angry villagers beat up the apprehended criminal and later informed the police.

Marak was a known and wanted criminal involved in several cases of robbery, dacoity and kidnapping. The police are on the lookout for the other members of the gang.
