D Litt to Arup Kumar Dutta

GUWAHATI, March 11 - Internationally-acclaimed author Arup Kumar Dutta, well-known for his path-breaking books like Unicornis, Cha-Garam: The Tea Story, The Brahmaputra, The Roving Minstrel, Kaziranga Trails and the latest venture The Ahoms, will be conferred the honoris causa (honorary degree) of D Litt by the University of Dibrugarh in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the fields of literature, academics and public life through his invaluable works of creative and historical writings.

The celebrated author, who was recently chosen for the Padma Shri award, will be conferred the honour in the 17th convocation of the university on March 15. The decision of bestowing Dutta with the honorary degree of D Litt was taken in a meeting of the Executive Council of Dibrugarh University on October 27, 2017.

Eminent scientist and a former director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, Prof P Balaram, will attend the convocation as the chief guest.
