Cyclonic storm hits Manipur

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, April 28 - A cyclonic storm accompanied by squall once again hit the state around 4 pm today, followed by rains. The storm damaged many houses, uprooted trees and disturbed the power supply for more than two hours here. However, there were no reports of any human casualty.

The sudden squall with wind speed reaching 50-60 km per hour also affected the normal vehicular movement as the dust filled the Imphal air forcing the passersby and vehicle riders rushing to safer places on the roadsides.

The cyclonic storm was caused due to a disturbance in the Bay of Bengal.

A similar storm hit the state on April 15 claiming the lives of three women, rendering many people homeless after their houses were destroyed.

Meanwhile, the state government has started collecting the detailed assessment reports from the respective deputy commissioners of the affected districts, said sources.
