Cyclone alert in Guwahati

GUWAHATI, May 20 - In view of the warning that the super cyclone Amphan may hit Kamrup (Metropolitan) district any moment, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has sounded an alert thereby directing the entire line departments to remain prepared to face any kind of disaster.

�There is a likelihood of a widespread effect of cyclone. Hence, all the Head of the departments may keep their officials and equipment ready to tackle any situation that may arise during and after the cyclone,� an official correspondence from the DDMA stated.

People of the district are also requested to keep themselves ready to face the cyclone and to be careful in dealing with the situation. All emergency requirements may be checked immediately,� the DDMA notice said.

Further, the DDMA also urged the APDCL, Forest, telecom services, Fire and Emergency services and Public Works Department to ensure round-the-clock readiness of their staff and machineries to deal with the immediate requirements.

According to MET department, rain and thundershowers with strong gusty winds is likely to hit Guwahati along with several other parts of Assam in the next 48 hours. Super cyclonic Amphan today made a landfall today.
