PATACHARKUCHI, June 5 - On the occasion of World Environment Day, a huge cycle rally was taken out today at Pathsala, which saw participation of around 500 people. The rally was flagged off by Ananda Khataniar, brand ambassador of Forest and Environment department, Government of Assam, at Bajali College premises.
The members of leading organisations, including AJYCP and AASU, teachers and students took part in the rally. During the rally, around 100 saplings of neem were distributed among the people. Ananda Khataniar, in his inaugural speech, urged upon the people to make a habit of planting saplings in order to save flora and fauna in their ambience. He thanked the State Government for declaring Pathsala town as a �Neem Nagari�.
Munin Sarma, Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, in his speech, explained the significance of the World Environment Day and appealed to the gathering to beat air pollution with cycling habit. He also expressed his satisfaction with the support rendered by the people of the locality.
The rally was organized under the aegis of Rongali Bihu Sanmilani, Pathsala in cooperation with My govt. Assam, Green Mission Bajali, 7th Bn of NCC, Bajali College, Bajali Cycling Community, Pathsala Cycle Club, and Dharamtala Cycling Community etc. The theme of the World Environment Day is �Beat Air Pollution 2019�. Giridhar Choudhury president of Rongali Bihu Sanmilani and secretary Swapan Talukdar expressed happiness over the support of the people and thanked them for making the rally a successful one. The committee also made arrangements for distribution of saplings throughout the day.
Baihata Chariali: Topcem Cement organized a tree plantation drive at the premises of Changsari Railway station yesterday as part of the World Environment Day programme, a press release stated.
The plantation drive was organized to create awareness about providing natural shade in open spaces by increasing green cover which will help in reducing pollution and improving air quality.
The programme was attended by Station Superintendent, Changsari Railway station Bhumidhar Das along with Bipul Das, Commercial Superintendent, Changsari Railway Station.
Dr Anil Kapur, president, sales and marketing of Meghalaya Cements Limited, graced the programme. Around 300 plants of different varieties were planted as a project covering the front and back sides of the railway station.
