Cycle expedition to celebrate 181st Raising Day of Assam Rifles

HAFLONG, March 15 - To commemorate the 181st Raising Day of Assam Rifles, to be held on March 24 at Shillong, a cycle expedition was flagged off from the Haflong on Monday.

The Assam Rifles Cycling expedition was flagged off in presence of Chief Executive Member, N C Hills Autonomoous Council, Debojeet Thaosen, Executive Members Kulendra Daulagupu, Mahendra Kemprai, SP Dima Hasao Dr Dhananjay Parashuram Ghanawat, Commandant of Assam Rifles, RK Singh, president of JNH, Kailen Daulagupu, and many eminent personalities.

The expedition team from Impahl, Khohima, Lekhapani, Aiwzal and Agartala, comprising Assam Rifles unit joined by the expedition team from Haflong and were headed towards Lumding for Shillong via Guwahati.

The team will spread the message of peace and harmony and convey the message �Swachh Bharat, Swatch Bharat and Samasth Bharat� (Clean India, Healthy India and Strong India).

It is learnt that the 30 �Friends of The Hill People� on cycles on Sunday cleaned up the Haflong Lake and four tourist places at Old Dibarai, Upper Bagettar, Convent road and Moulhoi.

The Assam Rifles is celebrating 181 years of its service to the Nation, more specifically to Northeast India in March. As part of these celebrations, all 46 Assam Rifles units under twelve Assam Rifles Sector Headquarters and three Headquarters� Inspector General deployed in seven sister States of Northeast India are participating in a cross Northeast Region cycle expedition.

The aim is to spread spirit of harmony and peace, and to enhance awareness about �Swachh Bharat�. As part of this cycle expedition, 10 cyclists each from 21 Sector Assam Rifles deployed in Tripura and 23 Sector Assam Rifles deployed in Mizoram arrived in Haflong, capital of Dima Hasao on 13 March. These two teams had begun their cycle expedition from Agartala and Aizawl, respectively. They were received in Haflong by the cycle expedition team of 22 Sector Assam Rifles deployed in Dima Hasao, Cachar and Sonitpur districts of Assam.

All the 30 cyclists first paid their respects to Rani Gaidinliu, Northeast India�s National freedom fighter, at Boro, Haflong. Thereafter, they moved to Haflong Lake, where as part of Save our Lake (SOUL) campaign under Swachh Bharat, they invested their time and effort in cleaning the popular lake. The cyclists proceeded to clean four tourist places of Haflong so as to give tourism in Dima Hasao a fillip.
