AIZAWL, July 25 - About 4,984 cases related with child issues have been registered by Child Welfare Committee here during April 2012 to April 2016 and of these 2,566 are connected with male child while the balance 2,418 are related to female child.

Among children who faced problems, there were 552 children who could not be brought up and looked after by their parents and 389 were sexually molested. There were 253 who faced persecution or ill treatment and 102 children were abandoned by their parents.

Officials of Child Welfare Committee said 361 children faced problems resulting out of negligence by their parents and there were 170 children kept at orphanage home. There were also 136 children who had run away from home.
