DHEMAJI, Jan 29 - The 20th biennial Bordalani session of Dhemaji Zila Sahitya Sabha which was arranged at Bordalani Girls� High School premises with a two-day programme, concluded successfully recently with the open session.
Speaking as the chief guest in the open session, Jadav Sarma, the newly-elected chief secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha stressed on the need for publicity of Assamese language, literature and culture in the State and other countries.
He vowed that he would work wholeheartedly for uplift of the Assamese language, literature and culture with the cooperation and suggestion of the Sabha workers.
In connection with the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019, Sarma said that CAA would destroy the unity, language and culture of the Assamese people irrespective of caste and creed. He further said that Asam Sahitya Sabha would never accept the controversial CAA and would go on opposing it until this anti-Assam Act is revoked.
The open session which began with the song Siro Senehi Mur Bhasa Janani..... was presided over by Nandeswar Borgohain, president of Dhemaji Zila Sahitya Sabha. The proceedings were initiated by Premananda Talukder, secretary of the reception committee where Pabitra Kumar Buragohain, president of the reception committee read out the welcome speech.
Earlier, the open session was formally inaugurated by Narsing Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji district, who in his speech, wished for uplift of Assamese language, literature and culture as well as peace and harmony among all sections of people living in Assam.
Dr Dhananjay Ghanawat, Dhemaji Superintendent of Police, addressed the open session as the distinguished guest.
In the open session, Rukma Gohain Boruah, Principal of Lakhimpur B Ed College released the souvenir of the 20th biennial Dhemaji Zila Sahitya Sabha session titled Bordalani.
The educationist, referring to the present critical situation of the Assamese nationality, appealed to the people to work hard for development of Assamese language and culture. In this regard, he laid stress on reading Assamese books and urged the people to learn to love their own language and culture and to form a habit of reading Assamese books. �The acquaintance of a nationality is revealed through its language, literature and culture, and not by its religion,� he remarked.
Several other books were also released in the open meeting. Four out of them, titled Shishur Byaktitta Gathanat Ekanjali, Alokar Pom Khedi, Akangshit Hridayar Chakulu and Artanaad written by Babul Gogoi, subject teacher of Swarnapith Higher Secondary School here were released by executive members of Asam Sahitya Sabha Hiranya Hazarika, Sanjay Kumar Tanti, Bimal Rajkhowa and executive president of the reception committee Dulal Das respectively.
On the other hand, the Dhemaji Zila Sahitya Sabha Patrika was released by Naba Deka Boruah, writer and Joint Secretary to the Govement of Assam, while another book titled Amar Katha written by retired Principal and literary awardee Bipin Chutia was released by newly-elected Asam Sahitya Sabha chief secretary Jadav Sarma.
Likewise, Jay Kumar Doley, Principal of Murkongselek College released a novel titled Chema Khampa written by Binod Kumar Gogoi of Silapather.
In the open session, the outgoing president of Dhemaji Zila Sahitya Sabha handed over his charge to the newly-elected president of the Zila Sahitya Sabha Binita Choudhury Garodia, who in her speech sought cooperation from all with regard to conducting the district unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha.
The open session was addressed by AJYCP leader Ratul Borgohain as invited guest. Several other dignitaries, including former presidents of Dhemaji Zila Sahitya Sabha Tilen Gogoi, Padmeswar Dihingia, Paban Chutia, Headmaster of Bordalani Girls� High School Debajit Hazarika and Principal of Bordalani Central College Dr Shirumoni Boruah were present as invited guests.
Earlier, a sapling plantation drive was initiated by Mohan Das, treasurer of Bodalani unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha in the morning while Nandeswar Borgohain, outgoing president of Dhemaji Zila Sahitya Sabha hoisted the flag on the occasion and Dulal Das, executive president of the reception committee offered smriti tarpan.
