GUWAHATI, Jan 31 - The curtains came down on the 37th Jyotirupa North East One-Act Play competition on Sunday with a declaration to promote the theatre movement in the State and distribution of prizes in both group and individual categories.
The organizers also felicitated eminent filmmaker Munin Baruah on the occasion with traditional fanfare. Baruah in his address to the gathering said that he is inspired by happenings and people around him which he portrays on stage or on screen. He also lauded Jyotirupa for continuing its mission to advance the cause of theatre.
This year saw the participation of 26 groups and the winners were judged by a panel comprising Nilu Chakraborty, Prabhat Goswami and Purnima Pathak Saikia.
Natghar of Nityananda was adjudged as the best group for its play Murkhar Bakastu and was presented the Radha Govinda Baruah Memorial Running Trophy, Jyotirupa award and a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
The second best team Natmandal of Pathshala was presented with the Radha Govinda Baruah Memorial Running Trophy, Jyotirupa Award and a cash prize of Rs 7,000. The third best team Pahi Creation, Nalbari was presented with the Radha Govinda Baruah Memorial Running Trophy, Jyotirupa Award and a cash prize of Rs 5,000.
The Ishan Baruah Memorial Award, cash and Jyotirupa Award for the best playwright went to Kishore Tahbildar for Murkhar Bakastu. The Siva Thakur Memorial Running Trophy, Jyotirupa Award and cash for the best director also went to Kishore Tahbildar.
On the other hand, Tapan Deka was adjudged as the best actor and was presented with the Sishir Goswami Memorial Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash, while the Jayanta Baruah Memorial Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash for the best actress was bagged by Chandita Bannerjee. The Siddharth Medhi Memorial Running Trophy, Jyotirupa Award and cash for the best child actor went to Pahi Kalita.
The OP Nayar Award and cash for the second best director was bagged by Kripal Kalita. The Premalata Lahkar Memorial Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash for the second best actor went to Nabajyoti Kashyap. The Jyotirupa Award and cash for the second best actress went to Rima Bodo. The Kishore Thakuria Memorial Running Trophy and cash for best disciplined team was bagged by Natshala of Patacharkuchi.
In the mono acting category, the first prize was bagged by Dolirani Devi, who got the Kishore Thakuria Award, Jyotirupa Award and cash. The Jyotirupa Award and cash was presented to the second winner Pratiksha Sarma and the Jyotirupa Award and cash was presented to the third winner Sakya Singha Sarma. The best actor award in a comic role was bagged by Ranjan Talukdar.
