Curtain raiser of Namami Brahmaputra at Majuli

MAJULI, March 28 - A curtain raiser event of Namami Brahmaputra was held at Kamalabari here today with the beginning of the Samanvay Nouka Yatra, a boat journey to pay tribute to the mighty river, amidst prayers by Satradhikars and colourful cultural performances by various troupes.

On a boat, decorated with scenes from Srimanta Sankaradeva�s first drama, Cihnajatra, six Satradhikars started their journey from the ferry ghat at 10 am. A 60-member cultural troupe is also the part of journey in another vessel.

The boat journey will cover nine districts of the State with nighthalts at different places before reaching Guwahati on March 31, the inaugural day of the central function of the Namami Brahmaputra festival.

Adhikar of Uttar Kamalabari Satra Janardan Devagoswami, Burha Satriya (Burha Adhikar) of Barpeta Satra Basistha Devagoswami, Adhikar of Bhogpur Satra Dutta Devagoswami, Adhikar of Bor Alengi Satra Bhabananda Devagoswami and Deka-Adhikar of Adi Bihimpur Satra Atul Chandra Mahanta form the Satradhikar�s team.
