Curfew relaxed in Shillong

By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, Dec 15 - Curfew was relaxed for 13 hours under two police stations here in the State capital today, however, internet service has remained suspended throughout the State.

East Khasi Hills District Magistrate, M War relaxed the curfew in areas under Lumdiengjri Police Station and Sadar Police Station from 6am to 7 pm. The administration extended the relaxation from its earlier notification of 10 am.

Despite the relaxation, the situation remains tense and most of the shops remained closed. In Police Bazaar shops opened, especially due to the festive season, but due to the tense situation shopkeepers downed their shutters earlier than the curfew period. During afternoon people ran in haste due to some rumours and shops were closed in a hurry in Police Bazaar and its adjoining areas. But there were no incidents of violence reported so far.

Meanwhile, due to the relaxation of the curfew several students from outside the State got a window to return to their homes as the North Eastern Hill University has postponed all the under graduate, graduate and professional examinations till February.
