AIZAWL, March 26 - Curfew was imposed here last night in an attempt to check the spread of COVID-19 in a more effective manner.
The District Magistrate, Aizawl, clamped curfew in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation area at 9 pm on Wednesday vide an order issued under the relevant provisions of law, including Regulation 11 of the Mizoram Epidemic Diseases (COVID-19) Regulations, 2020.
The order came a day after the first and the only COVID-19 case was detected in the State. The detection of Mizoram�s first positive case triggered panic in the State capital yesterday with people coming out of their homes in large numbers to buy essential commodities amid the ongoing lockdown, flouting the social distancing rule.
With curfew in force, the roads in Aizawl were almost empty today. Only those exempted from curfew, such as the police, media persons, medical staff and volunteers of local task force, were seen outside. In many localities, disinfectants were sprayed on the streets.
Meanwhile, the condition of the Covid-19 patient, a 50-year-old pastor, was stated to be fine. He and his entire family have been kept in the isolation ward at Zoram Medical College at Falkawn near here.
�His condition is now stable. His fever has also gone,� a doctor said. Doctors are hoping that he would recover and be released from the hospital soon. The pastor had returned from Amsterdam on March 16 and tested positive for Covid-19 on March 24.
All his co-passengers have now been traced. According to officials, none of them has shown symptoms but they are being quarantined along with their family members as a precautionary measure.
