TEZPUR, Jan 18 � The people of Tezpur, along with various socio-political organisations like the Asomiya Sahitya Sanmiloni, Asam Sahitya Sabha, Tezpur unit, AASU, Sonitpur Press Club, Sonitpur Journalist�s Union, Ban Theater among others paid rich tribute to Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala on the occasion of the 64th Silpi Divas on Friday.
The Asomiya Sahitya Sanmiloni centrally organised a day-long programme here at Tezpur College premises. The programme started with tribute to the Rupkonwar in the morning which was followed by the open session held under the chairmanship of Dr Khargeswar Bhuyan. The open session was chaired by working president of the literary body, Dr Dilip Bora and general secretary Madhurjya Mandit Baruah and was attended by the presidents and secretaries of all the district and branch committees of Asam Sahitya Sanmiloni.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Dilip Bora observed that Jyotiprasad Agarwala�s actual artistic and political journey begins after 1930. He dedicated himself fully to the freedom movement and was even jailed for 15 months and was imposed fine of Rs 500 for his active involvement in the freedom movement. But he parallely worked on the art and cultural front and also for the uplift of the Assamese society.
He further said that the cultural icon started his writing from the age of 14 and wrote the famous play Sonit-Konwari. �For the next few years during his student life he wrote many short stories. Jyotiprasad was very good in child psychology and he wrote many stories for children, Dr Bora said and added that the cultural icon wrote more than 300 songs and gave music to most of them.
Dr Dilip Bora added that the most valuable gift of Jyotiprasad to Assamese cine world is Joymoti.
Likewise, the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Tezpur unit organised various programmes, including tribute to the cultural icon, competition on Jyoti Sangeet and State anthem O Mur Apunar Desh and opening of the six day-long Tezpur Book Fair in connection with the 150th birth anniversary of Jyotiprasad Agarwala here at the Sahitya Sabha Bhawan.
Paying tribute to the cultural legend, president of Tezpur unit Sahitya Sabha recalled the contribution of Rupkonwar towards the society and urged the Assamese people to come forward to follow the ideology of the cultural legend. Several programmes were also held at Poki, where Rupkonwar used to reside. The Ban Theater family also organised competition and commemorative programmes. People also paid tribute legendary artist at Trimurty Udyan.
Golakganj Correspondent adds: The Asam Sahitya Sabha observed Silpi Divas at the Sahitya Sabha Bhavan, Dhubri with a day-long programme. The open session on the occasion was chaired by Imran Shah, president, Asam Sahitya Sabha. Speaking on the occasion, Imran Shah highlighted the life and struggle of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala and said that the Assamese people would never forget this cultural icon�s contribution for Assam.
Kumud Chandra Kalita, Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri inaugurated the open session. Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi and Prahlad Tasa, vice-president and secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Gias Uddin Ahmed and Hemen Chakraborty, president and secretary of Dhubri Sahitya Sabha respectively and many other prominent persons were also present and spoke on the occasion. Earlier, many programmes like flag hoisting, smriti tarpan, Jyoti sangeet competition etc., were also arranged by Dhubri Sahitya Sabha and Dhubri District Sahitya Sabha on the occasion.
Biswanath Chariali Correspondent adds: The Sonitpur district Sahitya Sabha observed Silpi Divas at Kalabari near Gohpur with a two-day long programme which ended on Friday. On Friday the flag of the organisation was hoisted by its president, Gunakanta Baruah followed by smriti tarpan. The open session was held from 11 am with Gunakanta Baruah in the chair at Kalabari Rajahuwa Bhavan. Former vice president of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Biswa Baruah, actor-artist, Prithviraj Rabha, principal, Chaiduar College, Dr Anjan Ojah etc., were present in the session.
Sonit-Konwari written by Jyotiprasad Agarwala was staged at night. Earlier, various competitions were held among the students on Thursday.
