DIBRUGARH, June 17 - �Jyoti Tirtha�, a cultural centre project, designed to reflect the philosophy and ideals of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwalla, the great poet, dramatist, musician, film maker and revolutionary, was formally launched today on the occasion of his 117th birth anniversary celebration at his birth place in Tamulbari Tea Estate by eminent litterateur Dr Nagen Saikia in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, family members of Jyotiprasad Agarwalla, several dignitaries and multitude of people.
The cultural centre named �Jyoti Tirtha� will be built in a six bigha plot. The complex will consist of four blocks � an auditorium block, museum and exhibition block, library and research block, workshop studio and the cafeteria. Some of the proposed amenities include open air theatre, information desk, souvenir shop, administrative offices, security room, and public toilets etc. The complex will also be fit with the energy efficient systems like solar panels on rooftop to minimise the heat. Dr Nagen Saikia launched the project by the click of a mouse.
The comprehensive project on the revered cultural doyen is the brainchild of Devi Prasad Bagrodia, a well known author, translator, tea planter and one of the owners who took over the garden recently from the earlier proprietors. The other co-owners of the garden include Sunil Kumar Agarwalla, Sumit Kumar Agarwalla and Krishanlal Karnani.
Prior to the launch of the project, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal flanked by Dr Nagen Saikia unveiled a bust in front of the then residence of the family of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwalla within the tea garden premises. The Chief Minister paid homage to the cultural doyen by garlanding. Jayshree Chaliha, Gyanashree Pathak, and Satyashree Das, the three daughters of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwalla were witness to both the unveiling of the bust and launch of the exhaustive project. Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwalla was born on June 17, 1903 in this tea estate, some 12 km from here.
Two books were also released on the occasion. Jyotiprasad Agarwalla�s Ancestors and Tamulbari tea estate, penned by Devi Prasad Bagrodia was released by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while Bharatiya Oitijyo written by Dr Nagen Saikia was released by Jayshree Chaliha.
Later addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the vision and prudent thoughts of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwalla reflected in his creative works. �It is due to his immense contribution in the fields of art, literature and culture of the State that the society today is emboldened to further the cause in the global arena. He has truly built our self confidence. Inspired by his works, we can surely march ahead. Today the prevalence of superstition, corrupt practices and anti-social behaviour in the society is very unfortunate. It is really sad that we have failed to eliminate these evil elements from the society in spite of the fact that great souls from the State like Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva, Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa and Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwalla and several others have enlightened the society through their teachings, writings and their creative works. We must ensure that the ideals and principles of these great legends are instilled in the minds of the young generation for a better society. The children of today must draw inspiration from these great men,� said Sonowal.
The event was also addressed by Dr Nagen Saikia, Dr Kandarpa Kumar Deka, Vice-Chancellor of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva University and Jayshree Chaliha. The welcome speech was delivered by Devi Prasad Bagrodia.
