GUWAHATI, Nov 30 � Police claimed to have identified the culprits behind the killing of transporter Ajit Singh (45) in Basistha Chariali last night.
Singh, a resident of City�s Beharbari area, was shot dead by unidentified miscreants around 9:15 pm last night. Another person also sustained injuries during the incident is undergoing treatment at the GMCH.
Senior Superintendent of Police (City) AP Tiwari told The Assam Tribune that the culprits behind the shoot-out have almost been identified and very soon they would be brought to book.
�From the investigation done so far, there are enough evidences to believe that it was the case of business rivalry,� Tiwari said, adding that things should be crystal clear in the next 24 hours.
He, however, refused to divulge the identity of the individuals suspected to be behind the killing reasoning that �it could hamper the course of investigation�.
Singh, who owned a number of trucks, is also believed to have diversified business interests in and around Guwahati.
Earlier, members of business community of Basistha Chariali staged a demonstration in the National Highway 37 demanding speedy investigation into the murder mystery.
The members of the business community rued that there is a sense of insecurity prevailing among the members of the business community after the incident and the authorities must take ardent steps to instill a sense of security.
A meeting with the senior police officials with the members of the business community also took place to discuss on the matter.
